(From 21 Days of Prayer)
“And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. pray to the lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.”
Jeremiah 29:7
God is all about redemption and renewal. He shows this characteristic trait of His to us over and over and over by taking what the enemy meant for destruction and turning it into something for the good of many (Genesis 50:20). This is true in every situation in life. God is with us. God is for us.
Scripture further reveals to us that God has given us the awesome privilege of helping to reconcile people to Himself. Even further, He has chosen to make His appeal to others through us. We truly serve as His ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20).
What does this mean for you and me as His church and our place in this city of San Francisco? It means that He has placed us in this city. For some it is the place they live and work; for some it is the place they work but not live. For many it is the place they come to play. For all of us who are His ambassadors it is the place we act on His behalf.
God calls us to partner with Him in loving this city by the Bay! He is at work here. He is changing the storyline, and that story includes us!
We are called to say “yes” to this partnership with our Lord by:
Praying earnestly for the Lord of the harvest to send more of His people into His harvest (Matthew 9:37-38) to point people in all arenas of life toward a personal relationship with Him.
Etch deeply into our hearts that every day the Lord is making His appeal to people through us. He changes a city through changing one person at a time.
So pray today for God to speak through you today! Ask Him, “Lord, make me aware of someone who crosses before my path today who needs Your love.” If you’ll do that each day you’ll be able to watch as our city and our neighborhood are changed.
And pray for the city leaders, the businesses, the schools, those who provide first-response in emergencies and those who help the most needy. Pray for those who are jobless and who’ve lost businesses and dwellings during the past 22 months. Pray for those who are hurting and struggling. God cares about the Bay Area and He has sent us here. Thank the Lord for the privilege of bringing this place before Him!
PRAYER: Lord, open my eyes to the people around me today - people who need You. Let me see what you want me to see. Empower me as Your ambassador in my home, in my workplace or school and even in my recreation.
