My Plinth is Jesus!
1 Corinthians 3:11 For no one can lay any foundation
other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Just the other day, I bought a Chinese book off the internet. I began
to look over the Chinese characters to see what I already know. I
arrived at this word: 礎. It means a plinth. I have no idea what it is,
even though the definition is right there. It is even used in a
sentence and I still have no idea. After asking a few native English
speakers, they were not sure. Well, ask those who grew up with
Chinese what the Chinese character means… still no success. Wow,
it isn’t often that I find a word that both English speaking and
Chinese speaking people don’t know.
Well, what is a plinth? It’s an architectural base or platform in
which one places an object like a monument, column, or statue on.
Even though we don’t know what a plinth is, (well now I do know
and so do you!) those of us who are Christians should know who
our foundation is. Our solid foothold—our Rock—is Christ Jesus.
So, this means that Christ is actually our plinth. If we build on
anything else other that Christ, our foundation is weak and the
structure that we build can be easily toppled. This is what will
happen to you if you hear the words of Jesus but do not put them
into practice. This is why we are told that we will be recognized by
the fruit that we bear. Furthermore, any tree that does not bear
good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire (Matthew 7.15-29).
May this not happen to any of us! May we all follow Jesus and
leading of the Holy Spirit! May we experience the love and
blessings that comes from the God of the heavens! You will if your
trust is in the LORD and he is your foundation. Don’t forget to tell
the Great Creator that he is your plinth today!
