牧者心聲 Pastor's Message
10/18/2009
If you are reading this… good. Don’t put me down—keep reading!
If you’ve ever seen a struggling sports team, basketball, baseball,
football, etc., you know that when the team is bad and losing lots of
games, chances are that the coach is going to get fired, even if it isn’t the
coach’s fault. The players may have less talent than the rest of the league.
Or they could be making uncharacteristic mistakes that don’t happen off
the court/field. Here’s something else. If one team is doing well, then
another team has to be doing poorly. It’s not possible for every team in
the league to have a winning record.
Now, as a church, we are not competing with other teams
(churches). We’re all on the same “team.” However, this doesn’t mean
that we can slack off. It should be our goal to develop ourselves both
inside and outside. By inside, I mean in the church as well as in our own
spiritual lives. By outside, I speak of evangelizing and sharing the gospel
with all.
As for myself, I’ve been at this church for 7 months now. And
there are things that I see which are positive and things that are negative.
Our church has fellowships. But are you attending? Our church has
prayer meetings. Can you make it? Or are they not at convenient times?
Let us know. Prayer and meeting together are important spiritual
activities in the life of a Christian. I hope you join us.
From an outward and evangelistic perspective, we are doing very
well with the ESL and tutoring programs on Sunday afternoons. But we
also have areas that need growth. We are looking into developing a
Children Worship for the Children Ministry, and also growing the College
Ministry. Would you like to be involved in either?
As one of the four pastors, I sometimes think of myself as a coach.
A coach’s job is to put athletes into training regiments and work on
perfecting their skills, while also pointing out weaknesses. Likewise, my
responsibility is to look for those who might be struggling and encourage
them; to look for those who are doing well and encourage them. I also
need to point out flaws of those who are struggling as well those who are
doing well. Is this challenging for you? If so, good. Then I am probably
doing my job. If not, is there a way I can help you? Let me know! We’re in
this together. (And I’m going to have my own blind spots as well. Let me
know as well!)
With the end of 2009 closely approaching (still 2 and a half
months away), I would like to know what ideas you might have? Even if
you aren’t on a committee, that doesn’t mean that you don’t have ideas.
What are you thinking? What can our church do?
Thank you for reading. And now, the next action step is to…?
(Ans: Let me know!!!)
A fellow servant of Christ,
Brother Benjamin Chung
