This week the “past” has been a topic on my heart. We most often, as we should, deal with the “present”. And frequently we deal with the “future” planning as well. But this week God has put on my heart to deal with the past. This topic has come about through various circumstances; one being that I am reading the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. In this book Warren makes the statement, “We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it.” Over my lifetime I have seen many people “prisoners” of their past. Occasionally I get chained down as well. It can hurt. It can be re-living a nightmare. It can be a cycle of hurt, fear, or guilt that appears to have no end. More often than not we were the victim, and continue to be the victim. Unfortunately this world is full of sin, and people get hurt anytime sin is involved. You can be sure Jesus knows this about us and you can be sure Jesus, Love Himself, offers all He is to help us overcome our past. Jesus even said this to us in His holy scripture: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." This week, as we walk in the light of Christ our Savior, call upon His Name when the days get tough. Call upon His Name when the burden is too much. Call upon His Name, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
